Samantha Martin And The Haggard is a Toronto roots rock foursome. Most of the members have lived or toured much of Canada, The US and Europe playing different genres of music and picking up little influences on the way. With the April 2008 release of Back Home (©2008) which has received early critical acclaim and sold over a thousand copies, Samantha Martin has found the band of her twangy dreams. Now in the process of recording, they can't wait to show people what they are capable of in the studio. The demo will be available by mid-august 2010.
Samantha’s portrayal of love, loss, sin and redemption, in the songs she writes, show her heavy country and blues influences. Her raw powerhouse vocals often leave people wondering how something so big could come out of someone so small. Someone once told Samantha that "Heartbreak sounds good on you" and nothing could be closer to the truth. The members of Samantha’s band, The Haggard, all play with Toronto’s country favorite The Kensington Hillbilly’s. Michael “Mikey” McCallum, also of Toronto’s Dodge Fiasco, is in charge of lead guitars and harmonies. Bass player, Greg “Sweets” Sweetland, is a former member of Toronto bands The Tijuana Bibles and The Exploders. Drummer and harmonizer “Lucky” Pete Lambert played in the British Ska band The Trojans and was also part of the first wave of “Cow punk” in 1985 when he played with Lash Lariat and The Long Riders. Collectively, Samantha Martin and The Haggard have over 70 years experience entertaining crowds. Samantha and The Haggard have been making incredible headway since the completion of Back Home ((c) 2008), playing Mariposa 2009 and now Summerfolk 2010, recording a new demo, and creating a lasting bond with their audiences. Being a true “Trucker’s Daughter”, the road has been a way of life for Samantha. She can't wait to take the show on the road. |
